This week the Residents went on an exciting trip through rain, wind and sun to Yankee Stadium. We first toured the New York Yankees Museum and the Residents enjoyed looking at the artifacts of great players. Andy was particularly taken by the Lou Gehrig exhibit. Though Andy had been a Brooklyn fan, Gehrig was always his favorite player.
During the tour we took a stroll through Monument Park where many monuments are dedicated in honor of ballplayers such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. It was fun exploring the stadium and seeing the inner workings of the place.
One of the highlights was seeing where the magic begins – the team locker room! We all picked out some of our favorite players lockers and saw what they had hanging up. We ended the tour on the field by the dugout. This called for lots of picture taking and ooooohhing and aaaahhing.
As we moseyed many Residents relayed personal stories about their favorite Yankee memory. It was a delight to see them so enthralled with the place. Margaret said she really liked all of it and couldn’t pick a favorite part. Ellen was so very thankful for the opportunity to go and couldn’t say enough about the experience.
