On May 17, Maeve Ryan made her first Holy Communion in our chapel here at the Jeanne Jugan Residence. She was accompanied by friends and family including her grandmother, Teresa O’Hara, who is a Resident here in our home. At the beginning of the ceremony, Maeve got up and sang the Glory to God, accompanied by organist Mary Kate Mutze. Father Dunn then gave a very enlightening homily, mostly addressing Maeve, with insightful advice to her as she grows and blossoms throughout her faith journey. Next, a group of children got up into a line at the podium, and each child recited an intention for the prayer of the faithful. After that, Maeve’s guests brought up gifts for the Residents and placed them in front of the alter during the offertory. Finally, we had the joy of witnessing Maeve, full of anticipation, receiving her first Holy Communion. It brought back many fond memories for all!
