We took our annual trip to the SUNY Maritime Campus for a picnic by the water on July 2. As the Residents gathered their hats, sunscreen and sunglasses to prepare for the sunny weather, pizzas were ordered to be delivered to our spot by the sea. Once everyone was secured in the bus we took off for the adventure!
When we arrived on the campus all the Residents were very excited to see the water, the boats, the two bridges and all the other fascinating things that seemed to be happening around them. We settled into a nice shady place on the grass, right by the water, and we were happy that the temperature there was perfect for our Residents to enjoy themselves to the fullest.
As we waited for lunch to arrive, we decided to put a fun twist on one of the popular activities here at the home, “Sit and Be Fit.” Instead of using a ball to toss around, we instead used small water balloons. Next we handed out water guns to some of the Residents, which helped us all to keep cool.
Once the pizza arrived everyone sat around to indulge and enjoy each other’s company, and we finished up an amazing outing with a cup of ice cream for each one. We are happy to say that all the Residents enjoyed this outing and they would all love to go back to SUNY Maritime to have another fun filled afternoon once again.
