It was a joyous day of thanksgiving and celebration on August 30th when the Home celebrated the feast day of Saint Jeanne Jugan, the foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Mass was celebrated by Father Robert Dunn, our chaplain here at Jeanne Jugan Residence, and a packed chapel listened to his beautiful reflection on Jeanne’s total abandonment of worldly things and dependence on God alone. The Residents (and Little Sisters!) enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by our wonderful kitchen staff. The day was capped off by a visit from the Mr. Softee ice cream truck, where Residents and staff enjoyed soft-serve ice cream complete with sprinkles and all sorts of topping, thanks to our gracious benefactor Mary Banaghan. In the words of Saint Jeanne Jugan, “Making the elderly happy…That is what counts!” and our Residents most certainly were happy on this very special day.
