Bronx Updates
New showers
Our shower repair project was extensive and caused quite a bit of inconvenience but our upbeat staff faced it head on and with great enthusiasm. At its completion it was agreed that everyone deserved to celebrate and we did! The Splish Splash party was an event to be remembered. Ducky balloons, paper goods and décor set the tone for a fun filled event. Residents, staff and family joined in for competition games and great prizes. The Residents and staff joined in the games and loved competing against one another. It was a perfect way to celebrate a job finally completed!
New baby
One of our long time employees will soon welcome her first child. The staff joined in preparing and celebrating this wonderful event. Theresa Li has been working for us for over 7 years. Many staff and sisters attended her wedding and we are happy to prepare with her for her first born. A surprise party planned was a bit of shock to her and surprising feat for the staff to keep such a secret during its preparations. Gifts poured in and the Residents were thrilled as she opened each package – all different, useful and delightful to witness! The Residents continue to accompany and support her with their prayers looking forward to meeting the little baby we consider part of our Jeanne Jugan family.
Camping Trip
A camping trip is not something easily accomplished in a nursing home but thanks to the imagination and ingenious initiative of our activity staff the Residents experienced their first camping trip indoors! The auditorium was transformed into an “outdoor” camping sight, light dimmed, fake fire, artificial birds, stars in the sky etc. The Residents were thrilled and felt they truly experienced an evening outdoors!
Our Annual “Jeanne Jugan Award” an award given to an employee chosen by their co-workers who has in an outstanding way, displayed a characteristic of the spirit of our Mother foundress St .Jeanne Jugan was replaced this year. In celebrating the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Little Sisters to America it was decided that ALL the employees would be recognized. On the feast of St .Jeanne Jugan the employees were invited to a special dinner and entertainment. Three employees who are very musically gifted brought members of their families to perform. Afterwards several of the staff took to the microphone to witness. They each gave a very moving explanation of why they work at the Jeanne Jugan Residence and how much they feel attached to the Residents and the family spirit of the home.
1st Birthday Party
One of the employees wanted to celebrate her daughter’s first birthday at Jeanne Jugan Residence with the elderly. Kayla is very much part of the Jeanne Jugan family and the Residents almost feel she belongs to them as much as she belongs to her mom and dad. They prayed for her before she was born and during her short stays at the hospital. They love when she visits and she seems to feel very much at home with all of them. She loves Minnie Mouse so of course Minnie Mouse was displayed everywhere! Kayla was lavished with attention and gifts and everyone participated in the lively music and treats!
