On Thursday, March 14th, Bishop Gerald Walsh and 11 priests gathered with us to celebrate St. Joseph. A wonderful protector of our “little family,” we gather each year to honor him in a special way. After a 5 p.m. concelebrated Mass, the priests all don white aprons and serve the Residents their meal. What fun it is! One year, a little lady told Father to “keep your day job!”
A delicious meal prepared by our kitchen staff followed including all sorts of pastries donated by many of our Italian friends at Arthur Avenue and beyond. From zeppoli to sfingi to cheesecakes, pies and other sweet delights, our residents certainly forget about Lent that night!
After the residents have been served their dessert, we invite the priests to stay for supper themselves, although the Residents have yet to offer to serve them!!! We know St. Joseph is honored by the smiles on the Residents’ faces (and those of the priests!)
