On August 5, 2014 we held a surprise “get well” party for our dear friend and colleague Mary Peters who received an adverse diagnosis earlier this year. To encourage, support and show how much her family here at the Jeanne Jugan Residence love her, we initially all gathered in the hearth with our chaplain Father Dunn. Betty Halligan led us in a decade of the rosary for Mary’s intentions and then Father Dunn blessed her with water from Lourdes. Then Father presented her with her own vial of this blessed water from the Grotto at Lourdes.
Mary, was very touched to by all of this and to see how many of her friends had gathered for the event for her intentions. Following the blessing, we all headed out for the Get Well Party which included refreshments, pizza, and snacks served to upbeat music. The festive atmosphere even included misting hoses and water guns to help cool us off on this bright summer day. Mary took the time to greet each person individually and express her appreciation to all. Jeanne Jugan Residence was content to surround one of her members with all the love, care, and prayers that Jeanne Jugan herself would have done.
